Hollywood, a coastal city just south of Fort Lauderdale and close to the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, ranked as a finalist in Money Magazine's 2005 list of the Best Places to Live. This distinction may have something to do with the city's rich diversity, cultural variety and blend of old and young. Today's Hollywood is seen as a microcosm of what the United States will look like in the year 2022.

Joseph Young came to South Florida in 1920 to build his dream city. His vision was to build a city for everyone, from those at the top of the social ladder to the industrious working class. His plan, a precursor for present day zoning regulations, included distinct districts for business, parks, golf courses, schools and houses of worship. His principal thoroughfare, Hollywood Blvd, stretched from the ocean to the eastern edge of the Everglades and contained unique circles whose names have changed over the years. The most famous one in downtown Hollywood, Young Circle, bears his name and is currently undergoing a multimillion dollar transformation.

Downtown Hollywood consists of quaint sidewalk cafes, brick-lined walks and unique boutiques, shops, art galleries and restaurants along Hollywood Boulevard and Harrison Street. Work is already underway on the new Young Circle Arts Park including a performing arts building and amphitheater, a children's play area, a visual arts building, pathways for jogging, skating and walking, promenades for sitting and in the center a grand fountain for everyone to enjoy. Many new condominium developments, C Radius, Soho Lofts, Hollywood Station and The Mediterranean are either planned or have already started construction in this area.

Hollywood Beach known for its beautiful seven mile stretch of sandy beaches and the popular Broadwalk lined with cafes is also going through a renaissance to keep up with the growing population of tourists and permanent residents. The beach is being renourished, bike lanes and walking trails are being added to the Broadwalk and many new condominium developments are being built. The catalyst, the Westin Diplomat Resort, is nearing completion of the luxury Diplomat Residences. Even Donald Trump is investing in Hollywood Beach with his new luxury condominium project, Trump Hollywood. Other projects include The Wave, The Residences, The Tides and Ocean Palms. In North Beach where many eco-friendly coastal parks exist such as the sea turtle hatchery and preserve the exceptional Villas of Positano is currently under construction.

Hollywood has also opened the Anne Kolb Nature Center located in the West Lake area with over 1,500 acres of mangrove preserves, a protected bird rookery and sanctuary and a fish nursery ground.

Besides the beach and the downtown area, Hollywood has many single family residential areas. Just off the Intracoastal Waterway lies Hollywood Lakes whose streets are lined with Royal Palms and homes with a variety of architectural styles including Traditional, Art Deco, Mediterranean Revival, Spanish Colonial and Prairie. A little bit west and closer to the new Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino are the neighborhoods of Driftwood Acres, Hollywood Hills and Emerald Hills to name just a few of the different areas within the city of Hollywood.
